Nutella Brownie Pie, revisited

Since my initial post about Nutella Brownie pie, I've made it again twice. Once for a church pie auction (it sold for $85!), and recently for a friend's birthday party.

Ding dang delicious.

The previous recipe I had was fine. However, I've made some changes that I think might improve your pie making experience.

Nutella Brownie Pie (revised)
1 pie crust, 9 inches (Whatever pie crust you use is fine. I recently used a store bought graham cracker crust that saved time, and tasted great with the filling)
2 batches of Nutella brownie recipe by Abby Dodge (3 batches took a longer cooking time, and the edges of the pie tended to overcook. Still delicious, but 2 batch maximum is best.)
Top with whipped cream, whipped topping, or Dream Whip. Lots of it.
  1. If making your own, prepare the crust ahead of time.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  3. Make the batter by whisking eggs and Nutella in a bowl until smooth.
  4. Add flour, and whisk until blended.
  5. Pour batter into your pie crust. Bake for 20-30 min. You don't want to thoroughly cook this pie, so that it gets soft, gooey, and fudgy in the middle. Place on cooling rack.
  6. After pie has cooled for about 2 hours, top with whipped cream. (Just make sure the pie is not warm so that the cream doesn't melt!)
  7. You can also melt a tbsp of Nutella with 1/4 of chocolate chips in a Ziploc sandwich bag, snip a small corner of the bag, and then drizzle melted chocolate on top of the whipped cream.
  8. Note: To make this even more chocolate-y, add chocolate chips to the batter.
The holidays are here, so that provides a good excuse for you to make this pie...Not that you really need an excuse to try this!

Nutella brownie pie

Nutella brownie pie

***NOTE: Since this recipe was originally posted on 03/25/2011, I've made some revisions. You can find the new recipe here. ***

It is currently 1:00am in Seattle, and I just finished a slice of pie. Go ahead. Judge me. I don't care, because it was one of the most amazing slices of pie I've ever had in my life. Now that you're done judging...Be. Jealous. Sucker.

I needed a new pie recipe for a pie auction we're having at church this weekend. I wanted something exotic/delicious/easy. My friend Andrew encouraged me to make a Nutella pie, because Nutella is like crack and vicodin, it's so good. Most Nutella pie recipes involved making a mousse, and I just wasn't down with that. I wanted something even easier. So I looked at other recipes. I didn't want a fruit pie, or a pudding pie. Maybe coconut cream pie? I went back to looking up Nutella recipes, and found cookie and brownie recipes. I'd heard of brownie or cookie pies before, and then it hit me...Nutella brownie pie.

It's dense, moist, chocolate-y, hazelnut-y, and abso-freaking-lutely amazing. It's not too sweet, but the the brownie is rich and melts in your mouth. I didn't add enough brownie filling, so there's too much crust, but it doesn't matter. I'm telling you. It's the best pie I've ever made.

Nutella Brownie Pie
1 pie crust (9 in. pan), store bought or homemade
my favorite crust recipes are here and here
3 batches of Nutella brownie recipe by Abby Dodge (I only used 3 ingredients!!!)
3 batches should be enough to fill the crust, or you could do 2 batches with a layer of whipped cream on top (just make sure you don't die from deliciousness)

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Make the crust. Make the batter and pour it into your pie crust. Bake for 20-30 min. You don't want to thoroughly cook this pie, so that it gets that soft, gooey, fudgy, melt in your mouth middle. Top with whipped cream, vanilla iced cream, or melted Nutella. I think I'd rather enjoy it with a fresh cup of coffee. Please try this. Right. Now. And send me photos. Giggity.

Alexandria, Va

Had dinner with a few friends from college tonight. The plan was that I would make dinner, and my friend Chucklebum and I would bake together for the blog. This is what actually happened:
Dinner: Kona chicken with rice and steamed veggies

Start making dessert

"Let's have some wine!" "YAY!!!"

"Let's slosh our way through dessert making!" "Gyurrrggghhhh..."

We tried four different kinds of ice cream for our cupcakes: strawberry, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, and banana. Considering that it was messy, and the brownie bottoms baked a little too long, the result was pretty fantastic! It was easy and tasty! Check out the link above for "Joy the Baker's" recipe.

The chicken was just as effortless and tasty, although I omitted the honey and baked it instead of using a slow cooker. It was such a relief to be cooking/baking again after eating out every day for a week! I really, really missed being able to choose my ingredients and be part of the cooking process...isn't that sad?

That's a complicated brownie...

26 page brownie recipe from the Pentagon...

Quote from the article:
"One thing we like to say is, 'What would happen if you cooked a meal, stored it in a
stifling hot warehouse, dropped it out of an airplane, dragged it through the mud, left it
out with bugs and vermin, and ate it three years later?'" If it were a military meal, Whitsitt
says, it would still be edible and maybe even tasty.
